Yes I think you are on the right track when you think that they are trying to justify their fandom for themselves. I feel the same way when I'm reading the book.

It sounds a bit like a stalkers diary. People like that make me feel sorry for the actors and stars that are being followed everywhere :p

Yeah. the last thing I read in the book was how they plotted to be able to get in touch with the actors. Feels like a handbook for stalking...
