That's too bad! I think I have this on my Kindle, I'll have to have a look. I love Pullman's Dark Materials books; I've read them three or four times, and they move me every time. I have The Book of Dust on my immediate TBR pile, too.

I liked Pullman's first few books. I thought his Familiar idea was inspired. I'd like to know what you think of "The Book Of Dust". I've resisted buying it so far, mainly because it was hyped so hard.

Are you going to watch the movie now? Maybe 85% of it?

:-)
I was a little put off the movie by the poster. In the book, Hester, who is the most interesting of the teenagers, has a face so badly scarred by a sword wound that took away most of her nose that she is frequently referred to as ugly. The movie poster shows a good looking girl with a kerchief. Makes me think they're going to gloss over one of the few bits of realism in the book.

Agent Elrond was in the movie.... so I watched the movie. The eye-candy was lovely, the plot meh. But you should watch it for the special effects.

Wow, 85% is a long way to go to DNF. But hey, if you're not enjoying yourself there are plenty of other books out there. I hope your next is better!

I found it not an easy read, and the second book was even harder. I started the 3rd and lost interest about 3 or 4 chapters in. I blamed it on over-reading the series and might revisit it. I thought it funny how in the movie a scar made her ugly. Now missing part of your nose might make people think that. It's like G.O.T.'s Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinkage) had the same wound but the TV show just had a scar.

Yeah, I was interested to see how the damage to Tyrion's face would be portrayed. Just a scar was a little disappointing, but easier for the makeup people, I guess.
