Agree with everything you say there. I love review writing. I adore getting advance copies of things that I can then encourage others to read. I have never had dealings with any author who has has a hissy fit if I didnt like their book. SPA's probably are best served trying to get a decent edit/proof reader to check before publishing. And Netgalley is brilliant :)
Yes, I've had to give some low reviews to some SPAs because the editing was horrendous! You wonder if they even had their family read it before they published it. Many would have been quite good if the time and money had been taken to polish them up.
I agree 100% about not finding people to discuss books with! We have one book discussion a month at the public library but it's one hour long with a moderator so there is little in depth book discussion. I hope the discussion group here at booklikes can start to fill that gap for me.
