I have found I really enjoy all of Julie Smith's books. I had only read the Skip Langdon prior to kindle.

Reading one of these older mysteries really makes me notice how the genre has changed over the last 20 years.

Agreed. A lot of the cozies published now feel more flighty. But maybe that's just because the flighty ones 20 years ago fell into obscurity? Maybe 20 years from now the only ones that are still around are the cream of the crop?

I think you're quite right about that. Some of the ones I've read lately seem pretty fluffy and I doubt they will stand the test of time if if they may be an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. I just don't remember reading this level of fluffy stuff when I was younger.
