Okay, you've awakened my inner History geek with this. Off to find a sample.

Thanks, everyone. It was a pretty awesome read, but it's definitely worth grabbing a sample to see if you like Jones' style. The next book apparently came out in November, and I'm actually considering buying it, even though it will blow my book budget for the quarter.
I look forward to seeing what you all think!

You've just about sold me on the book too, great review!

I'll admit, you had me at Blackadder but then you added the Mitchel and Webb skit and I've been laughing ever since. This sounds like a great book and one I'm definitely going to be checking out. My library apparently has not only this but has the one after, so I think I'm going to check this one out very soon. Wonderful review!

Thanks! The M&W bit was crazy. When I first saw that sketch, I didn't much like it because I thought it was just Ye Olde Homophobia. But as I was reading about Gaveston, I suddenly remembered it and comprehension struck. Mitchell read history and those guys are all in the Assembly of Barons that took Gaveston out.

That's what I like about their skits. For all their ludicrous humor, there's a lot of intelligence behind many of them. Their humor and mine doesn't always mix but when it does, its spot on.

Same. I detest the snooker and "amazing adventures of", but then you get winners like the Stargate sketches. Or

I just started watching Would I Lie to You and it is *amazing.*

Oh lord, the snooker ones. I can't abide them but LL always chuckles. I usually read until they're over. Hahahaha! That was amazing. However, those "New South Wales" cliffs look rather similar to the White Cliffs of Dover...

I've not watched Would I Lie to You, I'll have to give it a try. I was watching a bit of QI and need to pick it back up. I had lots of fun with their mixture of information and comedy.

WILTY is basically David Mitchell vs Lee Mack, being weird. They're given cards that contain either truth or lies and have to convince the other team they're telling the truth (or lying--the reverse of the truth, in any case.)

Mitchell's definitely my favourite of the duo. In fact, those Mitchell&Webb Mac advertisements just made me want to run out and buy a PC. If Webb is Mac and Mitchell is Microsoft, I wonder who would be Linux.

I'll have to check these out! Thanks! I think LL will like them too!
