I just went to Stephanie Dray's FB page and couldn't find it on there. I'm either blind or she took it off. The ignorance of the Jefferson/Sally comment is disgusting. I went to Laura Kaye's twitter and she is commenting that she has nothing to do with the BDSM book. Was she commenting on the original FB post? Like you, I read Kaye but since comments and posts have been deleted I feel like I'm lacking information in order to decide if I am going to put her in the do not read pile.
Stephanie Dray did delete (or hide) the FB post after someone posted the screen shot above on Twitter calling it disgusting earlier today. As is usually the case when people are called out for their bad behavior, the easiest thing to do is delete it and act like it never happened. You should peruse SD's twitter also. I saw tweets where she speaks on her intent of the post, but didn't confirm or deny that there was indeed a book of this nature in the works (that I saw). I tweeted LK directly and she responded that she is not part of a BDSM book and apologized for her insensitivity when she defended the FB post as "just a joke" which she had tweeted in response to someone else. The person who I think posted first about it was Jenny Trout (@Jenny_Trout) so that should give you a good bit more of info...of course so many others jumped into the conversation that it may be hard to follow completely hours later.
Perhaps, LK was just guilty by association but the fact that she and SD defended it with "it was just a joke." as if those of us who took offense should just brush it under the rug bothers me greatly. I cannot excuse such flippancy easily.
I checked out Dray's twitter, looks like she put an apology up and deleted anything that she had posted earlier. An apology is owning up to it but deleting things smacks too much of hiding and trying to brush under the rug.
I'm so disappointed in Kaye's "just a joke" comment.
Thank you for the information.
Apology or no, how does it ever even *begin* to cross your mind to even *think* about making a joke about Hemmings in such a way, much less to actually take the time to type it out on your FB page? The thought process there is appalling.
