I read this book about 2 years ago and the main thing I remember was that my opinion fluctuated between “I-can’t-put-this-down” and “this-is-sooooo-monotonous”.
I know that feeling! But the problem for me was mostly that I didn't identify with pretty much anything that was happening?? The characters approached everything in a completely different way than I would've and they didn't even seem to have justifiable reasons for doing so? It just bugged me a lot and that's when I would end up stopping and come back to it a month or two later. Thankfully I'm done with it now and can move on to other things. (And got all my rants out in my review, haha.)
Yeah, your reaction definitely makes sense after reading your review. This was the only book I’ve read by Crouch. I’ll probably try to read something else by him at some point because he did seem to have a good writing style. I don’t really read a lot of horror, but I like to sneak it in every now and then for a change of pace.
Ahhh. Well this is one of the last of his that I'm reading. Um, let's see. My favorite is Eerie (which he wrote with his brother). It's one of the best "ghost stories" I have ever read. And then closely followed by Snowbound. I also love his Wayward Pines series though I had a lot of trouble with the first half of the last one (basically for the same reasons I had problems with Run). Oh and Desert Places is my other favorite. That was the first of his I read and I've been hooked ever since, haha.
I really, really love his writing style and his stories are usually really fast paced and interesting and take lots of twists and turns. This one for some reason didn't?? (Or I just didn't like the twists?) But I've loved everything else I've read by him so I would definitely read something else by him if you'd like. He's really a wonderful author! I have been recommending him to all of my friends for years. (So far none of them have listened by some day, haha.)
Thank you! I'm adding notes about the ones you liked best to my list so that I know which ones to look at the next time I'm ready to give him another try.
