I read that one a while ago and reviewed it! Gave it 3 stars. Some of it was very funny, some of it was...ehhh, not my cuppa. But I respected it for being one of the first (if not only) NA parodies I've come across.

I think Excel Saga was the parody of manga that took the concept of what if people acted like manga characters in real life, but I'm not sure. I do remember hearing about one like years ago and cannot remember the title!

The only one I can think of...and I'm not sure it fits is Redshirts by John Scalzi. It's a parody and more about Star Trek. Not sure if it's your thing or what you're looking for. Um...if you like manga/anime, Ouran Host Club comes to mind but again, not sure if it's what you're looking for.
I will definitely check "Redshirts" out, thank you! And I love anime/manga parodies as well, so I've already read Ouran (It's one of my favorites).
