Yeah, my sample size of read "experiences with Swedish social services" is precisely two- so I'm not leaping to any conclusions.

I think this was the Mankell book I read in school, we had to choose between this book and another (Ondskan by Jan Guillou). Anyway the book I read was really depressing to read, so it took me many years before I read another Mankell book and I didn't like the book either so Mankell is not on my TBR list...

Well the Swedish social service isn't perfect but I think it is portrayed even worse in Swedish books.
I might give him another try, but I'll be waiting a while. I'm sure the Swedes are on par (at least) with the rest of the world in social services, it was just an interesting overlap with Larsson's stuff.
