This one looks really interesting to me. It's not the kind of book that I normally read and I know it isn't about music even though it has alot of music in it. I was really into alot of punk rock when I was younger and always loved the idea of England in that era. I may have to read it just for that. Sounds really interesting, plus I'm always trying to expand my tastes a bit, find new things and learn more. Even on some books that aren't my thing I usually enjoy them, kind of like the Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I'm still not sure how I feel about that one. The storyline was very bleak, cynical and depressing but I found the writing to be very beautiful for some reason. It's kind of odd to tell people It's one of my favorite books but I don't think I like it lol.
Yes absolutely. It is a bit depressing and a bit.. industrial, don't you think? I agree with you. (I love The Picture of Dorian Gray too). It's odd to tell people it's a depressing and entertaining book at the same time :)
Yes, exactly. That's kind of funny. I remember after reading it I looked it up on so many sites while I was trying to figure out if Oscar Wilde was mad or a genius - I eventually settled on genius and still have this bookmarked which helped me understand everything so much more. He was definitely ahead of his time in so many ways. The writing, again was very beautiful, that just seems like the right word to me but it's still a very bleak story. It's so much more of a cautionary tale than a advocate of hedonism. I was pretty horrified by Lord Henry Watton but just as caught up in his glamour as Dorian. Oh yeah, here's that link I had saved: http://www.bu.edu/writingprogram/journal/past-issues/issue-1/duggan/
I hope you will like it. I have the impression that not all of his books are as good as this one, but I was so impressed by the Rotters' Club that I think I'd like to check for myself :)
