Ah... that's right. The grandmother did seem a bit underplayed, in my honest opinion. And as much as I get tired of seeing the controlling matriarch angle of romances, I also felt a bit deflated when Galen's grandmother's presence seemed to fizzle into nothing, but a side plot that didn't really bring much to the table.

And yes, definitely loved Racine--that quote is legendary!

Would you say that this was a fairly strong Jenkins book? I'm feeling kind of the minority here, in that I didn't so much enjoy this book as a whole, but only really liked certain parts of it. Maybe it was just the whole Galen thing that threw me off. Or maybe the romance showing its age--I came into romance novels, and especially historical romances pretty late in the game, so I find some of the more dated stuff a bit less to my liking. Any other Jenkins you might recommend?
I think I've only read three other Jenkins' books, but this was my favorite. The relationship between Galen and Hester did have dated feel moments, I thought anyway, from what historical romance typically does now. A friend on GRs has read a couple of her contemporaries and has liked them.
