Congratulations!! I'd imagine being a Grandparent feels a little like being the cool Aunt, which I absolutely love. It's so different from being the mom. I love being mom too, but I'm glad to be so close with my niece and get to spoil her and have fun and leave the parenting to her parents!
I also love that little pallet project! It turned out great! This past year I've been really into making new things out of old or normally discarded things. I've got a few pallet projects I want to try! There's something that feels so good about breathing new life into something like that! When we made the Nook in March we used a lot of pieces from my daughter's old loft bed and they turned out fantastic. We used the top bunk twin frame and mattress in there, and also painted and cut the ladder and used the pieces for shelves to hang on the wall. So much better than just tossing it all to the curb!
My husband brings pallets home from work and he's been searching for projects to use them. There are a lot out there. The bench/shoe holder was something I wanted and it needed to fit my spot, so I measured and they built it. For not having plans to follow it turned out pretty good. :) We never throw out wood unless it's beyond using then we just burn it in the firepit.
