Oh Elspeth, I want to cry after reading this. Please know that I believe you. My son endured bullies at school when he was growing up fortunately for him, he had parents who were very active in his life and would not back down in their efforts to make things better for him. You should have had the same. What I discovered is that all to often the adults who should protect or children when we can't frequently just take the quickest resolution they can find and that is often achieved by punishing the victim instead of the abuser. It happens with domestic violence, with rape victims. Little by little it is changing but not fast enough and then things like Goodreads and their new policy happen along and remind me that like most changes it's one step forward and two steps back. I wish I could give you a hug and tell you what a brave and amazing person I think you are for sharing all of this with us :) be strong and always hold your head high and be proud of who you are.

Then please give my message to your friend whether it was you or someone else I still feel the same way about this and your friend is a very brave person and I admire her courage.
