I am reading this right now - I'm at 60% - and am really enjoying it. A lot! Great review.

Thanks! Glad to hear you are enjoying it too--I read some mixed reviews before I started and almost didn't pick it up.

Great review! You always pick such fascinating books.

Thanks! I'm always on the prowl for fascinating books--BookLikes being a great help of course--and If a book doesn't fascinate me you never hear about it because I don't finish or review it.

I've read some mixed reviews too and was almost going to give up on this book. Both of you like it though, so I plan to pick it up after all. I can see either loving or hating it.

Hope you end up loving it.
I'm halfway through this one right now and I'm loving it so far. :)

That's great! Looking forward to your review should you choose to do one.

Thank you for review. I've been very hesitant with this one due to the reviews I've read.

Some people really didn't like this book and some actually seemed to take offense, so I think in part it depends on how open you are to sequels or updates written by authors other than the original. I know some people don't like any Austen sequels/updates, but I've greatly enjoyed some I've read.

I read the prequel, There's No Place Like Home. Due to all the hoopla over The Great and Powerful Oz movie, Oz graphic novel reboots and now Danielle Paige's work, I have decided to read the entire original Oz series by Baum. There are clues in his books and some.foreshadowing that these things would occur. Until I finish the original series I won't continue on to Dorothy Must Die yet. It's a big motivation to get this reading done. Seemingly, reading the original we forget how dark it really was, the political and sociological issues represented etc. I'm sure I'm going to squeal like a little girl once I'm able to finish Paige's book and I hope she happens to write more in the series as well.....she's got something very valuable here......my attention and my imagination wandering amongst a new Oz.

If you have a chance I recommend you go back and read the original works.....it will blow your mind. Plus you will have different emerald glasses to view this world through. You can get the originals for free. If you need help finding them all and what order to read them feel free to message me.

I've seen in your postings that you will be going back to read the original classic Oz novels and that has definitely inspired me. I have them all on my Kindle already so, why not! There are some other books I need to get to first, but the originals are on my TBR now.

How did you like the prequel No Place Like Oz? I haven't read it yet--is it worth $1.99?
NerdyNatasha Musings 10 years ago
Totally worth the money for the prequel. But having not read the sequel. I really don't know how they compare. **blushing** Thanks for the note of encouragement in regards to reversing the fumbling to read the originals. But when you do..... you will be amazed. Baum might have even expected more for the series because it almost is set up for this reboot. The first book is the longest and You can read the others as an off time, or break from the current book you are c reading. Please let me know when you get around to reading the series.... would love to chat about it.

Did Dorothy Must Die live up to all your expectations? Think there might be more books in the series? How do you feel when comparing it to the Wicked series? Oh. .....I would love to see a play/musical of Dorothy Must Die. ... how about you?
Reflections 10 years ago
Dorothy Must Die more than met my expectations--and I'd love to see it as a play/musical or movie--but believe it or not I haven't read Wicked yet so I can't compare them.

I just read the opening to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and, yes, I want to read more. It's on my Kindle but I'd rather read it on my smaller lighter Kobo or Sony eReader so I've sent myself a link to download another copy on ePub for one of them (I have to be at my regular desk computer, not this Chromebook laptop, to put ePubs on my readers.)

I'm almost halfway done with The Marvelous Land of Oz. Totally reminds me if the sequel movie of the Wizard of Oz, Return to the Wizard of Oz with Farulza Baluhka (I think.that's how you spell the actresses name). When you read it you can always message me your thoughts so we don't spoil anything if either books to the members. But seriously you can see how Dorothy Must Die might have been already thought of in the original books. If you ever get a chance to watch Wicked, even if it means watching it before you read the book (ooh on no, I'm breaking my own nerdy rules) because the musical to totally rocks. I do hope they make a movie version sometime.

I'm desperate for a movie of Wicked. I've yet to see the musical though I've read the libretto. I tried the book and it was major DNF for me. I'm scheduling Baum's books in ASAP.

Its amazing How dark and filledn with political agendas there were. But we didn't think of that as kids. I want ri reas the whole original works before reading the reboot. Plus it adds more seoth to rhe James Franco movie The Great and Powerful Oz. I wonder what Baum would say about these books today. I've devoted Friday s to classical and banned books. So with just Oz I have big projecr ahead of me. I'm finding scheduling my time and being organized, persistant, and commited that I just might be successful and give me the extra time to review, write article, and these novels rhay are spinning in my brain.I haven't even startes my blog yet, or reopoen my Amazon book store. I think I need a clone or magical powers. Did I mention I'm tad bit over ambitious especially when it comes to books and all other things learning nerdy and fun.?!!?
