Thanks, HfK. :) I'll be keeping the account, but I won't be posting anything at all until we can control reblogs of our own posts. In case you have a GR account, please send me a friend request at https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/17433080-steve . I would love to keep in touch there.

I second HFK's emotions--I'll miss your posts and hope BookLikes fixes the reblog issues.

Thanks, Reflections. :) And if you have a GR account, let's be friends there - see above. :)

I'm on GoodReads and would love to be friends there. Jaylia3 is my "name", are you Leopard? My profile is here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1794273-jaylia3

No, I'm Steve there (and in real life). I'll send you a friend request there right away. :)

Thanks!

Thanks - I've already sent you a message in GR. I've joined the group you linked, but I won't be active on BL until that problem is corrected.

Ha! The sorts of books I review don't motivate reblogs... :) I think one of my auxiliary posts - not a review - was reblogged, but those I don't edit after posting anyway.

I'm sad. I valued your posts because you review unusual books, and your reflections and opinions are awesome. Yes I am in awe of you. You will be missed, but I understand your reservations. I'm not sure why BL is so slow to resolve this problem.

Thank you, RedThaws. If you have an account at GR, please send me a friend request at https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/17433080-steve . One certainly cannot have too many appreciative readers! I know that I certainly don't ! :)

Steve, I do have an account, but I'm going there about three or four times a year now, and only for things like accessing My Quotes. I no longer even try to catch up with reviews although there are people whose reviews I really miss. I'm going to cross my fingers that this will be the straw for BL, and you will be back real soon.
RedT Reads Randomly 7 years ago
Are you planning to offer this as an example on the BL blog? If not, I'd like your permission to refer them to this entry.
Leopard 7 years ago
On HfK's urging I've just made a post at http://booklikes.com/thread/2024/think-thank?p=3 . Is this what you mean? In any case, you have my permission to do as you suggest. :)

That'll work.
Maybe this time.

I'll miss you here, too, but totally understand. The reblog feature is off-the-charts awful and it has been raised to BL for a long time without any action. I look forward to continue reading your most excellent reviews on GR. It is sad and frustrating, tho, that BL is allowing its inaction to fix the reblog feature to lose content which is quite different and original.

Seconded. LOudly.
Leopard 7 years ago
Thank you both. :)
I just saw this -- and I join in the sentiment already expressed by the others. I, too will tremendously miss your reviews here, though I perfectly understand and share your sentiment.

For the reasons you state, I, too, already decided last summer, when much the same thing happened to me, never to post any full reviews of mine here, either, but merely posts without personal / proprietary content, and short previews of everything else with a link to the full text elsewhere (Leafmarks and my own website; and incidentally, the person who reblogged my review last year neither deleted their reblog despite repeated requests by me nor even responded to me in any way at all).

As HfK pointed out, several of us have taken to campaigning with BL to either abandon the reblog function entirely, or at least substantially curb it; most importantly, to introduce the option to prohibit reblogging a post. Again, I can totally understand your decision no longer to post here at all as long as that option does not exist -- but your going is a loss to the whole community and, equally, to BookLikes as a site!

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that your experience with re-blogging was even worse than mine! I'm not very active in LM, but since we cannot connect in GR I will make an effort to keep contact with you in LM. I hope that BL will modify the reblog feature satisfactorily, though, because it is my impression that LM is dying. I thank you for your kind words. :)

I think you've clearly understood the situation as it affected me. :) Thanks for your efforts.
Let's hope Leafmarks stays in existence for a while yet. The site has many features I like (inter alia, much better privacy protection than BookLikes and no reblog feature [cough]); what it sorely needs is direction and a more vibrant community ...

I haven't deleted my Goodreads account btw, but it probably really doesn't make any sense to try and reach me there, as like RedTHaws, I'm there only every couple of months ... ;)

What do you mean by "a few requests"? I assure you I deleted as soon as I saw your comment. Which I believe was within 24 hours of my reblog. And was on a completely different post (honestly, had no clue what you were talking about at first and took me a lot of scrolling to find what you were talking about). That deletion happened 7 hours ago.

And, I never, ever under any circumstances reblog reviews. I thought I was reblogging news about an author's passing. I checked the notifications page and it says "post" not "review" but since both of us have since deleted I don't know if you marked it as a review or not. I did not see that it was a review. In fact, you didn't say in your comments that you wanted it removed because it was a review but just that you wanted me to delete my reblog (which I did, the first time asked -- not after "multiple" requests). Although I admit I'm not always online or on booklikes 24 hours a day despite posts I may have set to publish at a later date so maybe you were asking on other sites I haven't checked in with this weekend yet. the first comment I saw from you was on a post I didn't make (I had scheduled it last week to post this weekend) so I as not on booklikes at the time and would not have immediately seen your comment until 7 hours ago when I logged on after Sunday School.

I placed a request that you delete the reblog on the reblog itself yesterday. That makes two, and that is a few. My post was a review of Absences and not news. But I am happy that you did delete the reblog, for which I thanked you a few times in different places. I'm not trying to get on your case; my problem is with the reblog feature.

Edit: Just for further explanation for the other readers: When I saw today that Debbie had not responded to my original delete request, I assumed that there was some computer problem, so I reiterated the request on her most recent (at the time) post. She responded quickly, was able to delete the reblog, and I thanked her there and elsewhere. Let me repeat: I have no problem with Debbie, just with the reblogging feature.
Debbie's Spurts 7 years ago
"many" and "yesterday" is what bugged me. Even once deleted, notifications screen will show the post activity. As Leopard said, only commented twice (on the reblog and on a later post) but honestly according to my notifications screen that took 7 hours and not a whole day.

If I'm ever not on booklikes for seven hours -- nope, not computer trouble or other issues. I'm probably only on booklikes twice a month or less unless marking a currently reading. I have some posts scheduled throughout and this month I've been experimenting with some import/export crap so have been participating a bit more. And finding a lot of catching up to do has kept me on fairly often this week (I'm in EST time zone so don't ever expect me to be on booklikes early weekend mornings or worry if I'm not).

Another month and I wouldn't have likely seen Leopard's comments for weeks or even months. A year ago booklikes told me they'd fix the issue with reblogging reviews but still had no clue what was wrong with my menus -- moot point because I never noticed Leopard's post was a review with star ratings in the corner anyway and was just noticing as one of unfortunately several posts about authors sadly passing. All I thought I was reblogging, a notice that an author had passed.

I do not deliberately reblog anyone's review. I probably won't actually be back on booklikes until September or October to see if menus working again unless SOS group members are wanting to echo team challenge posts here (and then I'll likely just post and run). I like the social; but I don't care for the book features and other site features (least of all with multi-year long bug issues still pending or if expected to respond within 24 hours to anything.)
