It was an interesting experience. I'm a perfectionist at heart and it's a continual struggle for me to reconcile my expectations of clean and perfect (everything in its place and a place for everything) with the fact that I'm actually a very disordered person living in a very disordered world with other very disordered individuals. Ergo, my expectations are sometimes quite unreasonable (and even irrational!) to say the least. It's not always pleasant to confront these things but it is good for me and ultimately for those I interact with.
Some of the things I learnt were disturbing (and disgusting) but I'm not unhappy at knowing them. My faith is not shaken by these things but rather tempered; my apprehension of human depravity (mine and others) only presses me closer to God, and at the end of the day this is what I'm after in every experience, whether mundane or profound.
And, yeah, I'm ready for 'the rabbit hole' as you say! Bring it :-)
