That first quote is my favourite. :)

It's still very relevant today, isn't it? This book is endlessly quotable. I love the second because it's such a gut-punch within the context of the story, and I'm reminded of the many people I know, who are normally warm and generously hearted, but are rabidly Scrooge-like on the subject of food, housing, and medical subsidies for the poor. Then they wonder at the savagery of Ignorance and Want.

Incredibly relevant - sadly so. Looking back, I totally should have found a kids version of the screen adaptation for my nieces to see while they were here. I think I'm going to do that for next year. I'd love to read it to them, but they're a bit too young yet. I read them "Night Before Christmas" and even that required stopping several times to translate or define "sash", "sugar-plums", etc. Soon though - and I'll have fun reading it to them. :)
