This latest down time, yeah...
It's really getting ridiculous. Textbook example how NOT to handle a situation -- *any* situation, regardless what it is.

Just last week someone mentioned a site called Riffle (https://www.rifflebooks.com/) so I signed up to see what it was like. It seems to be just starting out - or at least has a quiet community - but it may be another option.
I'm on the fence about Riffle -- from what I hear, at least part of its reason for being is to put authors in touch with readers. That's a big "no-no" to me -- precisely the sort of thing that brought about the 2013 meltdown on GR as a result of which many of us migrated to BookLikes. I want a place where I can review what I want and how I want without constantly having to do battle with authors aggrieved over the fact that I didn't show proper appreciation for their book (read: that I dared to rate it less than 5 stars).

Agree about reviews and book discussion. Not all authors are created equal. Many are lovely, engaging people capable of keeping things in perspective and separating themselves from their books. Others, not so much. It's nice to have a place where ratings and marketing aren't the focus. Hopefully BookLikes won't fold. Thanks for the follow, T. :)
You're welcome -- and can I say I love your book shelves, both the "Bookshelf" section of your blog and your profile picture? I'm already looking forward to your first blog post, too. (No pressure -- just thinking a person with these kinds of shelves is going to fit right in here!)

Why thank you. :) Isn't that bookcase fun? Commenting tends to be more my speed, but I'll work on overcoming my performance anxiety and see if I can come up with something I feel is worth sharing.
Oh, don't worry about something being "worth" sharing (even if it's first impressions for people here) -- just jump right in! :) You won't get slaughtered.

The more I look at Riffle (just spent a few minutes there), the less I like it. It really doesn't seem to have many useful features for readers. I don't like to be marketed to and it feels like they're really more about getting people to buy books than getting readers to talking about books.

I very reluctantly began building a blog to archive my reviews, just in case. I don't have a good feeling about BL right now.
Sigh. Exactly. Btw, what's your blog's URL? Even if it's not on Wordpress, I can follow it via the Wordpress "Reader" (which sort of works similar to the BookLikes dashboard).

It's pretty boring right now, just a rehash of my reviews. It's www.barksbooknonsense.blogspot.com. I hope this place sticks around. Trying to keep up a blog and find people to read it is almost a full time job :(
It totally is. Well, thanks, I added yours to the blogs I'm following via WP ... though I do hope BL will survive, too.
