Why set the book in the Lake District when he isn't going to make use of the setting? Reminds me of my complaint about the one set in the British Museum...
Yes -- and this one is especially puzzling because (1) it's the Lake District, for crying out loud, and (2) he apparently wanted to set a counterpoint to the style of Golden Age country house mystery that is set in a fictional location (not just the estate itself but also the nearby village / country town). Oh well. I've got several other Bude mysteries on my TBR, and I'll eventually get to them I suppose, but probably not anytime soon.
