But who's going to keep me company here when it's mid-afternoon on my side of the world and everyone else is asleep?? ;-)

Congrats on the new job / schedule. Enjoy the daylight - even if it's a cold, snowy/rainy daylight and all the other perks of daytime hours. :)

I know, right? It was always great to know someone else in this community was active during my awake hours when everyone else was asleep! =D

The truth is, I really DO like the night shift hours a lot: the quiet, the light traffic, no management looking over your shoulders, the ability to get all your errands run and appointments set without having to specially take time off from work, etc... And then going grocery shopping right after work was so, SO nice because no one is up or out at that time yet.

I'm really going to miss it, actually.

But my sleep really just hasn't been agreeing with me lately, so I'm hoping this change will help. Weighing the pros and cons, I really feel like getting some sleep will be more beneficial to me in the long run. I know my family is super excited about it. I suppose if I find I don't like it, I can always come back and join you during my night shift, your mid-afternoon, and we'll continue to keep each other company during the quiet BL Dashboard hours. lol

I hope the transition to your new work schedule goes smoothly, Ani. I've seen research that indicates graveyard shifts aren't particularly good for your health, so this sounds like a positive change for you. Got my fingers crossed your internal clock does a hard reset and your sleep cycles normalize so you're in sync with all the daytime dwellers. :)

I was thinking about sitting out the next game too, but after Themis and MbD unveiled all the Festive Season tasks, I decided I may just have to use some of my reads to fill in a few of those squares. :D

Look at that smug grin there... I think all that hard work that MbD and TA put into the game was just too hard to resist. I especially love that some of the reading tasks are pretty open and flexible, and some of the tasks seem simple enough, and something I'd like to do anyway (re: taking a photo of your current read with a glass of wine or preferred drink; or re: Read a book in one night.)

My coworkers and I have discussed the effects of working night shift as well, and one discussion was about an article that correlated the chances of heart attack and night shift workers--something to do with stress levels or, for some people, the inability to find a proper sleep cycle, and always being tired from lack of uninterrupted sleep.

I'm hoping I'll normalize soon after I start my new schedule, too. Thanks!

Only a few squares, mind you. ;)

LOL... the grin didn't come out of a place of smugness so much as a place of pure joy; sort of a throwback to childhood: "Yay! They like my toys and want to play!" :D

It's my first time game hostessing (possibly only time, lol); if I ever do it again, I promise to become more jaded. ;-)

hehe Just teasing. Though I WAS picturing a "You've fallen into my lovely trap" image when you commented on my other post with the evil "muwahaha" laugh. =P

But seriously, I think you and Themis did a wonderful job, since there were some of us who were kind of in the "I'm all gamed/challenged out camp" and had just planned to watch from the sidelines. But then the posts came out and we were all suddenly, "Man, this seems overwhelming, but I MUST play because it looks awesome!" I also think it was super sweet and great of you and Themis to pick up this game to give Moonlight and OB a break after the big games they've created this year.

I know a lot of work a heart goes into these games, and all of you are wonderful for giving us a great way of incorporating our love for reading into a fun game.

Aw, thank you and you're welcome, lol. And to be honest - you totally called it correct on the other post, with the muwahaha response. Think of me as evilly joyful - I'm both rubbing my hands together and jumping gleefully at the same time. Probably as close as I'll ever come to multi-tasking. :D
Good luck with your new position, Ani!

Best of luck with your new position. My son occasionally works the graveyard shift and it wreaks havoc on his well-being.
