While reading it, it was better than the first one for me, too. Once finished, a wee bit disappointed because -- while not a cliffhanger ending -- seemed more of an episode in the tale than moving the series along very far,
The first book is now on sale for $3.99 for kindle edition (I read when publisher TOR had it as monthly freebie). For the page count I do think the "series" is pricey. I'm so hooked I am still buying.
But, not going to do that for other "series" if publisher TOR thinks they are on to something (like some of the indie authors) by taking what could be a 400-750 page book at paperback/ebook price of $7.99 and turning it into a three- to five-book series with each paperback/ebook priced at $10 each so that the $7.99 book now is $40. I just won't read the first in series and get hooked like I did with Murderbot.

I totally understand and I agree. Even though I am already hooked, I cannot justify spending that much on a novella. The third one is up at NetGalley, though my request for it has received no response thus far. If I don't get it, i will request it through my awesome local library like I did this one.
