Oh I have to give this series a try. Always searching for good cozies even though that 'policeman refuses to believe the sleuth even after they were right countless times'-trope annoys me a lot (this might be the reason why I tend to go with those where the sleuth and the cop are romantically linked...that usually cuts down on that XD)
Definitely give one a try - the first one in the series is called Death on Demand and is excellent if you can find a copy. Billy isn't nearly as bad as most of the disbelieving cops in other books, but it would be nice if one of these books didn't include him arguing with Max and Annie right from the start. :)
Thanks. I had just put 'find out which is the first book in the series' on my to-do list (because BL is a lot less handy for that than GR). Just d/l the Kindle-sample
I actually thought she'd stopped writing them, but after a several-year hiatus she started again, and I'll admit I'm slower to pick one up than I used to be, even though they are still good. Not really sure why...
Thanks for the great review :-) This is one if my favourite cozy series :-) I was quire upset when Carolyn G. Hart recently announced that she was going to retire it ...and much relieved and overjoyed when she changed her mind...! :-)
As far as I remember, this and perhaps one other were the only times I dipped into the series before deciding they weren't quite my cup of tea, mostly for the reasons you mentioned here. If this isn't quite up to the usual, I need to stick the early ones back on my TBR.
If you can find the early ones (probably available digitally) give them a try; you might find them more compelling. I think no matter how good an author is, there comes a point in a series when you're in it out of character loyalty as much as you are for the good story, but the early ones have a lot of character development and freshness. So to speak. :P
