Your canon speaks to my canon, lol. I will forever be grateful to books for teaching me consciously and sub-consciously that it is ok and even empowering to be different. It's so hard to explain to non-book people the strength these fictional characters can give you.

Yes! Hell, it's hard to explain to a lot of *book* people sometimes; the younger ones that get so much more from TV and Internet than we did. I hope I can get my nieces to read these when they get old enough.

Any on your canon that aren't on mine?
I haven't had a good sit down to think about it but I would have to put a Babysitter's club on there for my young adult canon, probably one staring Mary Ann. I loved how the girls were all so different yet could be friends having their strengths and weaknesses be appreciated. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle I read over and over with The Island of the Blue Dolphins, I'm sure they had a certain amount of impact on me.

You're welcome - this was more difficult than I thought it would be; it felt surprisingly revealing after I wrote it and I had the strongest urge to delete the post entirely. Apparently I find sharing even harder than I thought. :P
