Wow. I would love to meet a platypus someday. They sound brilliant - cute AND interesting. I would have been unhappy about the book, too. I get the same when reading about penguins, giant turtles, dodos etc.

Btw, what do their feet feel like when they step on you? I've always been curious about that. because they look kinda soft but reason tells me they should be quite firm.

It was... there are no words. She was such a happy, cheerful little girl; she just swam around and then she'd swim up to you and flip over so you could scratch her belly. If you look at that photo, the blur where her feet are is her back leg thumping away in happiness, like a dog's leg does when you've found the perfect spot. :)

She never really stepped on me - the facility was really adamant that you stood there and let her come to you. In the picture it looks like I'm holding her, but really all I did was keep my hands just under the water, so she could swim over the top of them if she wanted to (which, thankfully, she did. a lot.), but I remember her feet being a lot like a possum's, or maybe a hamster's? Something in-between in size, but similar in shape and feel, but a little more webbed. :)

That is so unbelievably cool. :D
Wow. She is so adorable. It sounds like an amazing experience. This goes on my must-do list.
