There is quite a bit of suspense in that cover picture - a cat on a table with an open paint pot and ongoing paint work...

Will the pot stay up there?
Will the kitty end up with green spots?
Will the kitty become a brush to touch up the rest of the house?

I thought the paint had already been spilled. I mean, why would you be painting wooden furniture green??

The main character was painting at table green, but it was a metal table, not a wooden one. And at one point in the story the cat was sitting on top of a dresser while the MC painted the table. Obviously, the cover artist, while talented, was not a stickler for continuity or verisimilitude.

I've painted wooden furniture green (and yellow too); it's been outdoor stuff though and not beautifully grained wood. It's easier to maintain outdoors when it's painted and less likely to rot from the bottom.

@BT: My bet is on kitty paw prints in the wet paint, down the side of the furniture, and across the floor and furniture of various rooms.

With droplets where the cat tried to shake the paint of its paws...
