Argh, the backstory! It's like O'Malley set out to see how many times he could kill the tension dead without making the reader throw the book at the wall. It wouldn't have been so annoying if the ratio of vital information to rambling fluff hadn't been so lopsided.

And some of this asides the 'first' Myfwny (sp?) rambled off on just made no sense; she wrote these out longhand - the letters must have been pamphlets - why include them unless you *really* liked writing??

I KNOW. That's the one change in the TV series that made sense to me: dumping the longhand letters in favor of video diaries.

True, but while I agree it makes sense, it's not as intriguing, imo. How did she find the message? Did she just happen to have a waterproof tablet in her coat pocket (and in every other coat pocket?). That Starz series is going to fall into the category of "I'd have liked it if I'd never heard of the book" - though I do like the casting for the American agent enough to be really curious. I loved her in Newsroom.

I have no idea how they work it in. I've only seen the trailer, which didn't exactly make me want to jump online and subscribe to another streaming service. I assume they could easily replace the suitcase full of letters with a tablet if they kept the whole bank scenario. It just makes more sense to me for someone in a hurry who has no idea when the hammer will fall to make quick videos rather than spend untold hours writing letters.

There is that.
