I've never read these. They've always seemed almost too cute when I've looked at them. And I did wonder while reading one of the summaries where the mystery was. But your explanation makes some sense.
I can't believe there are nineteen of these!

I have a pretty low tolerance for cute, I think (unless baby animals are involved), and these aren't cutesy. They are VERY cozy though (no profanity, nobody's getting lucky on the page, no heart racing suspense). I think I liked the earlier ones best; they had a bit of adventure to them, and a couple had thriller moments in them (Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea had an especially tense climax given the overall tone of the series).

If you decide to try one, try to get one of the first two: A.D. Death, or A.D. and the Duke. Great stories and good introductions to most of the characters. (Duke takes place before the rest of the series and centers on the character that become's Lori's best friend.)

I'll try to do that. I never knew anyone who'd actually read them, so it's nice to finally have an informed opinion. ;)
My library appears to have them, so I expect I'll soon pick up the first one. Thanks again!
