What’s interesting about the perspectives is that one is in first person, and the other two are in third person; when you read it, you’ll see why!

You've made me really eager to read this, and look - it's been released! This bit got me: "especially if they intend to read any book this year that will make them ask difficult questions about morality, power, privilege, and the most difficult topic on everyone's lips right now" I actually try to avoid sexual assault books just b/c that's where I live and work, but boy does this sound like a great read.

Some of it is hard to swallow but the author does a good job at looking at it very realistically; sexual assault as it happens as in several situations (in college, as an adult), how it’s viewed from the perspective of the courts, and from the perpetrator. Also seeing a marriage shattered is heart-wrenching as well, but the women in this novel all work slowly through their individual situations and come to realize the world around won’t bend; they need to make their own way through this quagmire. Some American readers will find the British wording of some things a little odd (perhaps?); there’s little things like how we grade university degrees, etc., and some plain everyday lingo that’s different, but Vaughan’s use of words is so overall really beautiful to read, and while it’s not a quick read because of this, I hope people appreciate her prose.
Overall, I think this is a powerful book, with a lot to say to say about sexual assault and the realities behind it. Any book taking on the topic of sexual assault won’t be easy to read, and it should make you think and to feel uncomfortable. This one is brilliantly written and worth picking up!

I just heard Sarah Vaughan talk on the Fully Booked podcast on Apple ...you should check it out!! She actually wrote the book a few years ago after hearing about an acquittal of a famous sports player of a rape charge, and then it just somehow turned out that the timing of the book was even better with the #metoo movement. You should listen to her interview. Really good!!!!
