I quit doing those a long time ago either because the author didn't show up, people unfollowed my blog or criticized me after they didn't win the author giveaway because that was the only reason they went to my page, or the author forgot to answer my questions for me to post on my page then got upset with me when the feature wasn't posted because I didn't have anything to post, or the author wouldn't do the interview unless I guaranteed that all the guests would buy their book first. It just got too stressful.

Given the nature of my blog, I have guests write on a historic aspect of their book rather than do a Q&A. I think that makes it more than just a sales pitch for my followers.

I'd ask their preference. Then I don't think it's unreasonable to have them first give you their post or their answers before publicizing the guest post in any way.

I agree completely with not publicizing until you have the post.

Liking in support only. I don't do blog tours and don't have people do guest posts-at least not yet.
Good luck with yours!
In this case penguin random house contacted me. So pretty much no direct author contact.

I think I'd trust Penguin Random House even with nothing in advance ;)
I review for Penguin so they tend to supply you with what you need. I've done reveal features for them and they usually supply bloggers with all you need for it.
