About 5 pages at the beginning of the book Benchley writes from the sharks point of view and these parts of the book were great. He should have sticked with trying to explain the psychology of the shark instead of meandering off to the psychology of men.Then I would probably have liked the novel a whole lot more.

When I read it a couple of years ago, I thought it felt as though the author had just thrown every possible 1970's pop culture obsession into it just for grins. That's where the random mob references and weird sexual stuff come from, I think. This is definitely one of the rare occasions when the movie is better than the book.

I have never watched the movie, but I have read somewhere that they didnĀ“t include all the stupid stuff. That makes really looking forward to watch the movie.
