The similarities between what Paxton describes and the elements of Trump's appeal to his supporters. I'm still not convinced that it necessarily IS fascism, but I do appreciate better the similarities.

Does Paxton comment on the rhetoric employed? I have no doubt that this would be another aspect that might lend itself for interesting angle of comparison.

He outlines the arguments they use in a series of bullet points, including "a sense of overwhelming crisis beyond the reach of any traditional solutions," "the belief that one's group is a victim, a sentiment that justifies any action, without legal or moral limits, against its enemies, both internal and external," and so forth. I can definitely see the parallels here.
