So silly.

::sigh:: "I'm not defending her" and then proceeds to defend her.
BrokenTune 12 months ago
WTF indeed.

Also "everyone is born with some degree of privilege..." Really? I mean, I am perfectly capable of acknowledging that I was born with a rather high degree of privilege, but I am not "everyone," nor do I propose to speak on their behalf. Everyone in the world? She knows everyone and can therefore speak with authority on all of the privilege possessed by EVERYONE?

Methinks the privileged lady doth protest too much.
There's always that one person...
To be fair to Ivanka-wannabe, clearly she learned /something/ from the book. Deflect and accuse? Got it down pat. No surprise that she's a Trump white-knnighter since that's the whole family's MO.

Yikes!

"This s my space. Go away" -- love it. Once upon a time pre-retailer buyout, that actually was quintessential goodreads participation (meaning just that your review space was your space).

I'd think better of her/this if the book was titled something else. Working women, women who work, the working class ... all those types of phrases in common usage do not apply to someone in her position, her résumé or to her enterprises. There's usually an implied "...for others rather than having own businesses and sources of income like trust funds or investors" ending for "women who work"

I'd think better of her if she'd shut her pie hole. She has nothing helpful to say, and the fact that the publisher bought her shitty ghost written self-help book likely means that someone who actually does have a legitimately inspirational story of overcoming difficulties won't get a contract to publisher her book.

^^^^^THIS.

Now she is complaining about getting email notifications about people disagreeing with her. She's a fecking moron.

Wow. Just read the comments on GR...
What is it about GR that seems to attract the kind of people who feel entitled to lord it over reviewers in their own space. Have they never heard of leaving the review be and moving on? Or using their own to voice their different opinion?

From my experience it usually is someone with only few titles on their shelves, or few reviews (if any), who don't seem to interact in groups or discussions much, but who feel they can just barge in and tell people they're doing their own blog-space wrong.
Seriously, WTF?

And don't get me started on the idiots who use "generalisations" as their argument. So, infuriating.

She pretty much asked for it when she ignored your request for her to go away.
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
Aaand, now she's mad that I called her a daft dimbo, since she just started using GR and doesn't know how to turn off notifications. Not that her lack of familiarity with the site was a bar to telling me that I was using it wrong. It does appear that she has gone away at this point. Lol.
Debbie's Spurts 12 months ago
Indeed. She needs to just wrote her own review and not try to control other reviewers. WTF, does she really think goodreads is her personal kingdom where millions of members have to fall in line with what she wants? (Okay, so maybe she's not the first or last to believe goodreads is strictly for promoting/marketing books but just how could gr have gotten millions of potential marketing targets there by requiring that in order to get account?)
Tannat 12 months ago
Those comments would have made me so angry! Grr on your behalf.
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
They've mostly made me laugh because they are so preposterous!
Tannat 12 months ago
Good. :)
Obsidian Blue 12 months ago
Oh that asshat. I just rolled my eyes.
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
I know, right!
WhiskeyintheJar Romance 12 months ago
Complains you're using GRs wrong and then complains she doesn't know how to use GRs. Perfection.
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
Do you see a problem here?
Tannat 12 months ago
She's probably too unfamiliar with the site to realise that you didn't rate it and that your rating is thus not impacting the average rating...
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
Which is a 1.62 without my input.
...

I can't stand that kind of presumptuous, especially combined with that kind of idiocy!
Tannat 12 months ago
@MR I know, I had to go look. It seems like your reaction is far more typical.
Yeah, I didn't rate it either; just put it in the oubliette (aka my not-for-me shelf). With Sarah Palin, the vaccine deniers, and the list spammers.
Tannat 12 months ago
"oubliette" would be a good name for a shelf
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
She's still at it.
Tannat 12 months ago
Sigh. I don't really have any authority to do this, but I apologize on behalf of all Canadians...
Moonlight Reader 12 months ago
Hahaha. I don't hold you responsible for Justin Bieber so long as you don't blame me for Miley Cyrus! We're good!
BrokenTune 12 months ago
Pfft. LoL.

I can't believe she's still not taking a hike...
Debbie's Spurts 12 months ago
This gets my knickers in a knot -- telling customers/readers/consumers how to express their opinions/reviews.

Yet, despite being angry, no way am I in turn marching over to her review to bash it and tell her how she outta be reviewing and using goodreads. That's her review space. If she had been attacking other goodreads members in her review (and maybe that's borderline with stabs at negative reviewers and vapid popularity contests), I'd flag it as abuse. I might weigh in if a discussion had started up on her review where it seemed argumentative comments were welcome or to defend someone attacked in comments -- but her review space is her review space.
XOX 12 months ago
What a horrible book. And the fight with stupid as fuck readers in GR is illogical.
Murder by Death 12 months ago
Well, you got me curious enough to lure me back to GR long enough to read all the comments.

You're nicer (or more tolerant?) than I am - I'd have deleted her comments right around the time she complained about notifications for a conversational thread she started. She definitely has a gift for gross generalisations though. ::eye roll::
Murder by Death 12 months ago
Oh, and Ivanka? She's a twit and a princess and serves no demonstrable purpose to society, but then again, the apple ... er... orange rarely falls far from the tree.
BrokenTune 12 months ago
"Orange"..... Bwahahaha...
I always wonder is she can know what she is and still be what she is. This seems like malicious glamour, a contemptuous attempt to bedazzle and mislead, dressing something reptilian and dangerous in frivolous clothes.
BrokenTune 12 months ago
I guess, self-knowledge would take some depth. Maybe therein lies the problem, if the cause really was a lack of understanding? But if not, then malice would describe it.
Portable Magic 12 months ago
HAHAHAHA omg your review and the comments under it sure made my morning coffee entertaining. Plus it gave me an opportunity to flag another one of those obnoxious "ask a question about this book" non-book-questions. I hate that function with the heat of a thousand fiery suns.
Reading the post, and this conversation, and second-hand knowledge, I'm having the same reaction. Maybe I'm a bit sick, but I'm amused. Then again, I'm not going into GR again, so...
A Voracious Reader 11 months ago
I love this. Seriously love this. Also, properly participating in the platform. Is she fucking kidding? When people can "review" a book that is so far from publication it doesn't even have a cover yet? Or even a publication date? Yeah. That's integrity for you.
The word "proper" had my eyebrow up to. WTF indeed.
