Cousin Kate is one of her very last books (late 60s, I think), and I think she was trying to write to the trend, and it resulted in this novel. (It has one of the lower average ratings for a Heyer on GR - 3.46, as compared to a number that are 4.00 or better, from her best period.)

That explains a lot. She needed to read a few more of the trendy gothics to really understand the whole genre. Because I don't really think she got it. ;)

I adore Georgette Heyer. I've only read about 4 of her books thus far. However, I do have this book on my kindle. Good info to know.
