I think I gave this 4 stars too. I found it more enjoyable by dissassociating it with Dickens and thinking of it purely as Pratchett.
I got a huge kick out of the historical figure cameo parade. :)
Yes, it was rather tongue in cheek. I found that with some of the more direct attempts at books about the Artful Dodger. A couple of authors really over did it, slipping in characters from a lot of different Dickens stories. Pratchett gets away with it because he's writing comedy.
I really need to pick up this book.
It is very, very cute. Just make sure you're in the right mood for it and you're not expecting Night Watch or Monstrous Reg or something.
Or any significant connection to Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger.
