Great review! I love the sound of the special talents like stopping time (I'd kill for that superpower) but I really struggle with both fantasy and steampunk :( You make it sound tempting though.
Yeah, if you don't have a good track record with those types of book....it is a struggle to decide if it is something you want to try. I would start with the original 3 if I did though. Those have a more standard fantasy feel

I enjoyed reading your review! I’ve seen quite a few positive reviews of this book and I look forward to reading it someday.

I too read the original Mistborn trilogy a long time ago. I don’t remember much more than the magic system and some very basic things about the plot and the characters. I do remember that I really enjoyed it and I was especially impressed by the magic system.
Wow, I liked that the magical system was so outside the box, and it continues in these books...with those added elements. I liked that we were re-introduced t o this world at a different part of it's development. Like it is a living things that continues on when we aren't looking. It will be interesting if he keeps this up...and we get a modern day fantasy set in this world. Mistborn: Year 2016...and people are on their iphones and the internet...while being able to fly and slow time. lol
