I always enjoy reading books that are set in places I've visited. It's fun to envision the streets, restaurants and so on.

Here's a question, do you prefer that the author use the actual names of streets and towns, or use invented ones in fiction?

I like books that give details about urban settings in the hopes that one day I will visit all of them. It's also fun to see how an author "interprets" a locale.

Do you have a favorite book that does that well?

The answer to your question is "it depends." If an author wants to make up a town in, say, Minnesota, and can keep the geography straight enough in his or her mind to make sure that Jane's Restaurant is always on Smith Street, it's fine.
