It is odd. I have a niece in her 30's, living in a town w/o public transportation, who refuses to learn to drive. I don't get it at all.

That is odd. Does she walk everywhere or just get driven around? I'm used to most people learning how to drive with some exceptions where they moved away from home young or lived in a big city like Toronto or Montreal and just never got around to finishing the process.

She just gets driven around - and my family is not the type to put up with 'can you drive me...?', so she has to go out and about on other people's schedules. It's insane - you couldn't pry the car keys out of the rest of our cold dead hands, but she's terrified of learning to drive.

Well, it is scary when you think about it. I try not to.

I love driving - always have. I'm more terrified of being a passenger. (Although driving here in AU is not fun. It's a nanny state, and probably with good reason - the drivers are truly terrible.)
