Amazing. You zoomed in, tho, right? That looks way too close for comfort.

The bears were in the ditch, we stayed in our vehicle and yes, I zoomed in. One fool, however, got out of his truck and wandered down into the ditch! There's always one idiot with a deathwish! And you know that if the bears did anything about it, they would be the ones hunted down. Fortunately mama bear sent the kids into the tree line and then followed once she was sure they were safe.

Oh, no.:O What an idiot!
I'm fully in support of amnesty for any bear (or other animal) who attacks idiots with a deathwish. It's really not the bear's fault.
Agreed.

We like to blame it on tourists, but I'm not sure that this was the case on Monday. People don't realize how fast bears are until it's too late.

That idiot isn't going to be on any of your future outings, is he?

He was in a vehicle behind us, and I never really got a good look at him. If I could have, I would have photographed his license plate and reported him to the Park Service. Maybe fines can be used in lieu of brains.
Oh, wow.

Both re: meeting the grizzly family and re: the person with a death wish. And I'm glad mama bear acted the way she did.

It's pretty much wildlife 101 - don't go near animals with offspring.

Very lucky that she was a sensible bear! They skedaddled.
I once saw a Grizzly while it was fishing, from ~300m / 1,000 ft away - vertically! I was in a small aircraft at the time and the bear was watching us watching him...

Yes, they are very aware of their surroundings. Awesome animals!

OH, That would be the highlight of my day too - what a great moment! (Sadly followed by the idiot; I tend to lose my head and get too close to wildlife, but even *I'm* not a big enough idiot to get out of the car when a grizzly is in sight. Sheesh.)

We saw a black bear shortly after the Three Bears, but it took a quick look at us & fled. Smarter thanthe average bear!
