When I first found out that the sequel was going to take place back in the city, I was already filled with misgivings because the wildness setting was really what made the first book stand out and so special...= For me, that is what gave it the wonderful wolfiness. Agreed, the magic was lost when this became a typical contemporary shifter novel. The bar fight and appearance of the uber possessive and jealous ex made me roll my eyes and made me finally realize things weren't going to go back to the way they were....=( I think I should just stay away from sequels, after this and the magpie lord....

: This has been one of my biggest disappointments. I had been waiting so long for the sequel, after so many delays in the release date....Sigh.

Ahh, captive prince...! Okay, that is one series where the sequel was even better, IMO. :D Is there any word on the third book? I've had to stop myself from obsessively checking the website for any scrap of news.

I am beginning to feel delusional about sequels. We are expecting authors to take things (and characters) as they left them, and develop them. Authors tend to glean what apparently worked best and use the veins. (Sorry, I am not sure about my English there; I hope that I make sense.)
It is a huge disappointment to find a story that stands out of the lot, only to see it sink back in. (Not sure again.)

Of course I disagree with you and Kate on the follow-up of Magpie Lord. I thought it was great!! Even if I liked the first one better but it wasn't a downer for me *lol*.

Oh, well, I do think that sequels SOMEHOW were better on non-MM? I mean, I still can't get enough of Dresden or Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson series. I wonder why, though.

I tend to think it's because non-MM books tend to be longer = lot more time for character and plot development. Because I have so many favorite series like Kate Daniels, Downside, Guild Hunter, ect., and a lot of the books are easily 300-400+ pages.

I also sometimes think it's because MM novels face a certain pressure to focus on the romance. And so the rest of the book suffers. There are a few MM series I actually really liked, and they are focused on the fantasy or sci-fi, like Broken Mirrors by Vaughn Demont or Line and Orbit, but these series don't seem to be as popular or successful ( a lot of people complained about the lack of romance in the first book and never continued)... :x

Yeah. Axton's skittishness was obviously a success. *bitter*

Fanfic brought me to m/m, and m/m will bring me back to fanfic.:D

PS : cool, thanks. It sounded weird:)
