*And I feel very accomplished right now-I've been meaning to read this ever since The Dark Horse by Josh Lanyon, which was more than a year ago. Which I might have to go reread, now that I can more fully understand and appreciate all The Charioteer references.

Yes, it was verrry challenging. Not having the context made me feel so very slow and frustrated during just the first three chapters. I had to reread the second and third chapters twice, once I educated myself on the British House system and finally figured out that "c.o.s." referred to conscientious objectors so I could finally look up what they were. +_+

I am just so grateful for those LJ discussions I found, because I would have probably missed out more of the between the lines stuff that was happening. But I enjoyed finally realizing and then imagining what was happening in all the slight pauses and such. It was a very frustrating read at times, but this will stay as one of my favorite books too.
