I had to read this for a class and mostly what I remember was looking at how many pages I had to go and sighing over how slow going it was. And I think melodrama is a good description. Which is kinda sad, seeing as the content could be more exciting. I suppose it could always be a bad translation - but to be sure I'd have to reread another version and I'm not volunteering for that now!

You'd think I'd be prepared for it too - I did a lot of long Dickens novels for classes (Bleak House is huuuuge) and this is much shorter, but nope. Idea/plot is still fun for stage and film though. I mean, no matter how the acting goes the sets/costumes are usually fun.
