If I remember correctly, the book uses no quotation marks and no names (ETA: Oh yes, and no punctuation O_O). I think I got used to the style fairly quickly, but the spareness of it, combined with the bleak setting and atmosphere, just helped drag me down even more.

Congratulations for finishing the audiobook. Here's something if you need a pick-me-up: http://cuteoverload.com/

That was just what I needed! Todays top video with crazy brave ninja kitty vs. patient doberman was perfect. Only a book person would understand :) So thanks!

You're welcome. I love brave kitty. You just know that, later on, it will be thinking "I totally won that fight! I am the strongest!"

Me luvs my Cormac McCarthy but I HATED this book with a passion :O I could not get into at all, exactly for stated reasons above. He such a stylist normally but the spareness of his language, those short sentences annoyed the hell out of me in this case. And I love it in other books. It was not really the story itself, just the how it was told. Now The Border Trilogy is a different matter altogether, that´s true beauty. But glad you liked it. :o)

I always feel vaguely guilty when I haven't read anything by important authors, but I feel worse for never having read anything by him because he's from just down the road.
I listened to this audiobook as well. Man. Depression city. Was a wonderful listen. But it's something I won't do again. But want to anyways!
