Look at computer gaming mags. I can't tell you specific sellers, though I'll try to hunt down who we got our tower from, but what you're looking for is a gaming computer. They do make gaming laptops. They are a bit pricy but I think that's the only way you could play Skyrim. You shouldn't have to get the most expensive model now though, cuz Skyrim's a bit behind the tech now.

I've got an acer and it's brilliant. Can't remember the model as I'm not near it at the moment but I can't fault it. It's the second Acer I've owned and if it ever dies I'll replace it in a heartbeat.

@Bookstooge - am thinking there could be a whine chorus then under OMG Now This Is Cold! Am going to go buy some extra warm clothes this week, only the problem with that is that stuff here is "warm" by completely different standards than the east coast.

@Degrees - so far that's where I've got the idea that Acer is one of the recommended brands. Where I'm running into problems is figuring out the processor stuff - I'll sit down and go through all the dull lists of specs before I buy. (I know at least to get something that won't overhead itself.) But I'm ready to get something that I'll have to limit my time on with say MMOs, just so I won't melt anything down. I'm kind of ok spending a chunk because I'm going to try the experiment of giving up tv/cable and just trying internet only for a few months. Mainly because I usually spend more time on games and Netflix than tv these days. Will see how that goes! (Also will see how much the cable co. will then pester-sell me tv and not just internet. Fun fun.)

@Silver - yay, someone that actually has used an Acer! I'd not heard of the brand before I started looking into laptops recently, so that helps. Reviews seem positive, but you know, those are just random reviews online.

At least with the company we used, you could put in the highest performance game you wanted to play and they'd give you the basics. Then you'd go up from there. We got a decent tower for LL to lay Skyrim and it handled Bioshock Infinate well.

Pretty much the Gold Standard in gaming rigs

Not the one we used but I've heard good things about them.
