I grew up in that era, too, and had some weird album covers, but that takes the cake.

I recall seeing a news story once about a DJ in rural Iowa who went nuts at the station at Christmas time, and played Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer over and over again until they came to take him away. (To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time...)

Somewhere on one of my hard drives I have They're Coming to Take Me Away (ha ha!)!

And I totally heard that story about the DJ too! I'd google it but I'm afraid I'd come in contact with the Grandma song somehow I only just got it out of my head in a long convoluted series of earworms (including the song of Green Acres tv theme which argh, should not have rethought of). But I'd like to believe it happened because oh, that song....

The other day, as my daughter left for work, knowing the traffic was a bit crazy in the pre-12/25 last minute shopping rush, I said to her, "Don't get run over by a reindeer," thinking I was just being clever and commenting on the crazy traffic out there. "Thanks, Mom," she says, "Now I have that song stuck in my head!" "What song?" say I. Once again, I'm late to the party; I've made it a habit of avoiding malls in December and rarely listen to music of any sort on the radio. I'm probably the only woman in Boston who had no idea there was a song about car accidents involving reindeer. Now I have the refrain stick in my head--forever!
