That sounds so interesting. Wish I read German ...

I really wish her books were translated more widely. Especially because there are two stories in this collection that I cannot get out my head . :( I guess that's the downside of her works not being published much between 1940 and 1989 when a Swiss publisher rediscovered her. I can recommend the travel book she's written about her last trip to Persia/Iran, tho. It does exist in translation and is called All Roads are Open. I'm currently reading the German version.

This collection was very unlike the other book I just reviewed (published in English as The Happy Valley). Her writing style in these stories is very succinct and to the point. The Happy Valley is all written as a stream-of-consciousness - which works really well for it's subject. I am totally in awe of her talent as a writer.

I'm hoping to read Death in Persia, too. To see the differences between the two versions - the early one (DiP) and the revised second one (The Happy Valley).
