Agreed! I read this one a while ago and was disappointed.

Oh, good. Not just me, then.
I found this so tedious and boring that it not only felt painfully long, but I never made it through to the end.

I can't blame you.

Oh I am really glad you did not like it very much. Don't ask me why, but I was not convinced of the story.

Donoghue and I don't have a great record. Of all the books I have read of hers, I abandoned one, hated one, was underwhelmed by one (this one), and felt "meh" about one. I have Three and a Half Deaths on my kindle (tho no idea why I downloaded it at the time). That will be my last one of hers ever - if I can bring myself to read it.

There were so many aspects of Room that could have been explored, but she didn't. I didn't care for the POV as there was this constant contradiction between what a 5-year-old would be able to understand and what the narration tried to bring across.

I don't think the author meant to, but the overall impression I got was that the book tried to jump on a topic that had sensationalist appeal. Like I said, I don't think this was the author's intention but the lack of depth of the story made it come across that way - at least to me.

And maybe you have a completely different reaction to the book! It seems one of those that people either love or hate. And there are a lot of people who love it.

Yeah, could be! :-)
