Although, I would have loved to have seen how they would have weaved this into the franchise.

You guys know about Nauru right? The island made from bird guano and mined almost to extinction for it? Now it's known for the mess it's in with Australia's nasty immigration policies, but it was the island made from bird poop. :)

Yes. I once watched a documentary about it. The guano business really did destroy the island and the community on it. The community before the island with the squabbles about property.
In that context guano mining is a serious issue, of course. But you have to admit that it is bizarre and funny that guano mining should provide the plot of a Fleming novel. I mean, we are going "Bond in Space" to "Bond in Poop" here.

Agreed - and beyond the political and social ramifications of what happened in Nauru (and is happening), this made me think of it because I first leaned about it as "the island made from bird poop" which I loved for its absurd truth. I got to enjoy that immature giggle before I found out the rest of it.

"Bond in Poop" ... I love it. :)

LoL. I would have loved it if the Nauru issue or similar known events in his time had inspired Fleming for this book, but I really doubt it.
