I couldn't get into the original Mapp and Lucia TV series either. I didn't know there was a recent adaptation. I'm always looking for good comedy, so I'll check it out.

Wodehouse is such fun! Too bad the comparison crept in, though. It happens. Do you feel compelled to read a series in order? If not, then maybe you should skip to the book where Mapp is introduced. I just did that with the Vera Stanhope mysteries. I'd watched the TV series first and was familiar with the characters, so it worked really well.

Anna Chancellor and Miranda Richardson have a lot of chemistry that is just kinda missing from the earlier adaptation - and I didn't like what's-his-name as Georgie either, even tho he specifically produced the earlier version so he could play the character of Georgie.

I don't need to read this series in order, but I have a feeling that the first one I will enjoy is Mapp & Lucia so it is kinda nice to read them in order to have something to look forward to or get the weaker books out of the way first.

To be honest, I don't remember much about the older TV series. I think I only watched the first episode or two. A friend loved it and loaned me the DVDs. I did notice the new adaptation is just one season with three episodes.

Ah. Well I applaud you for wading through all the weaker books first. :)

If you're late to the party, I never got the invite, lol. When you first started reading this I thought it was a NF History. :P
