That's unfortunate. I really like the cover art for this edition.

The cover art for this whole series is gorgeous. :)
Ugh. Thanks for taking one for the team -- good to know this is one entry in the series I needn't bother with. (I checked ... it's not on my wishlist yet. I think this will remain to be the state of affairs.) Too bad about the waste of the BM setting!

Right? How can you have BM setting and not use it?
Inconceivable.

Awww, what a bummer.
Mr. Rowland also wrote Calamity in Kent, which I read earlier this year. The plot to that one I can summarize as "Scotland Yard Inspector decides his tabloid journalist friend, Jimmy, is the best person to investigate a locked room murder, and tells Jimmy to go for it."
Oh, great. Well, I guess not every author thus being unearthed is going to make my "must-read-soon" list, then ...

I just checked up on Calamity in Kent, and, oh dear, the Scotland Yard Inspector is the same as in this one. You know, the one with the secret police sign.

Also, I could not help but notice that the Inspector is called Shelley, which also happens to be one of the author's names. I guess he fancied himself a bit of a detective himself. Well, bless him.
Bless him indeed. Next ...
In the idiom of my people, "well, bless his heart."

How disappointing!
