OMG, I didn´t make that connection. I completely forgot that you have told me about her weird fascination with snails.

I had a quick search for "snails" in the kindle version. They do seem to get a few more mentions. I'm thrilled.

Wow. I don't know if I can read anymore by her. I didn't care for "Strangers on the Train."

OB, I really didn´t like "Strangers on the Train" (I really hated it, tbh), but I liked all the other books by her I have read so far. It would be a shame if you wouldn´t check out at least one other book by Highsmith *cough* The Talented Mr. Ripley *cough*.

Ripley was fantastic. I've enjoyed her short stories too, but I got stalled on The Price of Salt.

I need to start that, I just haven't had the urge yet.

OB, I totally second Lillelara. Give Ripley a chance. Strangers on a Train was rubbish but it was also the weakest of all of the books by her that I've read. If you don't get anything out of Ripley and the messed-up-ness of her characters, then Highsmith is just not for you.

She was an unusual character.
